About Bob McDonald

DP Architects was founded by Bob McDonald, who is a fully qualified architect with over 30 years' experience - having worked with award winning practices from across the UK, including Building Design Partnership in Glasgow, Robinson & McIlwaine and Hall Black Douglas in Belfast and most recently with the Architects Design Group (ADG) in Plymouth.
Bob studied Architecture at Queens University through a Degree and Diploma in Advanced Architectural Studies DAAS and was the first final year student to be awarded the Royal Society of Ulster Architects Bronze Medal.
After working with several architectural practices in Glasgow, Lisburn & Belfast, Bob moved in 1999 to Plymouth with his wife Lindsay and he joined the Architects Design Group (ADG). He continued working and enjoying life, both personally and architecturally in Plymouth, he and Lindsay - now joined by their son and daughter - decided to move back up to Scotland to be closer to family, particularly those in Kirkwall, Orkney.
Whilst with ADG, Bob began as Senior Architect and became an Equity Director in 2006. As well as being a Director of the Company, Bob was principle designer for a series of projects ranging in size and construction value - from loft extensions and individual houses to large mixed use multi-million-pound developments, medical, higher education developments and a large number of residential apartments.
The last main project that Bob was involved with, whilst still with ADG, was the development of the 9 storey luxury apartment building - Harbour Arch Quay - in Sutton Harbour, Plymouth for the Sutton Harbour Group. Although Bob was the Director in charge of the project, he was also the lead design for inception, sketch, planning and construction detailing. The scheme was successfully completed in 2023.
Having relocated to Stonehaven, Bob worked with ADG (as an ADG Design Director) on a revised Planning Application for a major £60M+ Plymouth City Centre regeneration project - Oceanique - a mixed use development containing apartments, hotel(s) a MSCP and retail, having previously gained successful approvals in 2006 and 2010.
Bob through Dunnottar Park Architects has continued to support ADG as an Architectural Consultant for the development of several Planning and Building Control Applications.
