Cornwall House, University of Exeter

Cornwall House, the existing Students Union Building (Student Guild) is located on the University of Exeter Streatham Campus. Constructed in the late 1960's the building has been identified as being the worst thermally performing building within the Universities portfolio.

The project construction value is in the order of £1.4M and entailed the improvement of the buildings thermal and operational usage by an M&E reconfiguration and architectural overcladding of the buildings facade and existing roof construction. The Building remained in occupation and use during the entire process.

As a result of the timescales set by HEFCE the Project Team responded to the need to operate in a quick and proficient manner, whilst maintaining an open design dialogue with the Universities Facilities team, Students Guild and Students overall.

The project was completed over the summer recess and was fully operational for the new term in 2013. The Project was assessed by the Universities Environmental Team including Thermal Scan Assessments - the EPC Rating of the Building was improved from a G rating to a B Rating and the Project received a Green Gown Award for Sustainability.

Bob was the Project lead for this project completing the design options, client liaison and consultation events and then leading the detailed design and architectural construction team through to completion.
